Marquette basketball vs Western Kentucky in March Madness: Prediction for NCAA Tournament opener

Marquette forward David Joplin didn't know much about Western Kentucky, the second-seeded Golden Eagles' opponent in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Indianapolis, but he knows he will be seeing a familiar face.

Don McHenry is Western Kentucky's leading scorer

The Hilltoppers' leading scorer is former Milwaukee Academy of Science standout Don McHenry. The 6-foot-2 guard is averaging 15.2 points per game.

"Really good scorer," Joplin said Sunday. "Very talented."

Joplin, who played at Brookfield Central, has never faced McHenry in a game.

"I'm excited to see him," Joplin said. "I've never played him before. I've always played him just in pickup games around town, so this is my first time actually playing against him. So it's going to be super exciting."

Hilltoppers won Conference USA tournament under Steve Lutz

McHenry scored 25 points Saturday night as the Hilltoppers beat Texas-El Paso in Huntsville, Alabama, to win the Conference USA tournament for the first time.

Western Kentucky is coached by Steve Lutz, who had assistant coaching gigs at Creighton and Purdue and was the head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Marquette vs Western Kentucky prediction in March Madness

The Golden Eagles are hopeful that point guard Tyler Kolek will be healthy to play against Western Kentucky after missing six games with an oblique injury. So this game should be about working any rust off, and the Golden Eagles getting back into the flow that led them to being a top-10 team for most of the season.
