These days, Michael Phelps is providing his expertise on swimming as an NBC Sports analyst at the Paris Olympics, giving his unique perspective on the sport that he dominated for the better part of two decades.
Now 39 years old, Phelps started his Olympic career at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney at age 15.
Four years later, Phelps became a household name, winning eight medals, including six gold and two bronze in Athens.
He continued to rack up medals and accolades during his career, holding the record for most Olympic gold medals and tying the record for eight medals of any color at a single Games with his haul in 2004.
He won a record eight gold medals in Beijing in 2008 and four golds and two silvers in London in 2012.
Phelps ended his Olympic career by winning five more gold medals and a silver at the 2016 Rio Games, finishing with 23 gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
