Mackenzie Holmes is Indiana women's basketball all-time scoring leader

Mackenzie Holmes became Indiana women's basketball's all-time scoring leader Sunday. She needed 17 against Purdue to pass Tyra Buss, who scored 2,364 points from 2014-18.

Holmes reached the milestone on a fourth-quarter layup and finished with 17 in IU's 95-62 victory.

Holmes, the fifth-year post player from Gorham, Maine, came into Sunday's matchup averaging 20.5 points per season and 17.1 for her career.

She has been a starter since her sophomore season with a career high of 33 points against Ohio State last season. She has six games of at least 30 points.

Holmes also entered Sunday's game with 936 career rebounds, third on IU's career list. Amanda Cahill holds the record with 1,115.

Holmes' career has paralleled IU's rise in national prominence under coach Teri Moren. The Hoosiers reached the Elite Eight in 2021, the Sweet Sixteen in '22 and a No. 2 national ranking in '23. They have been ranked all of this season.
