Will LSU women's basketball's Mikaylah Williams play vs. Auburn in SEC Tournament?
GREENVILLE, S.C. — LSU women's basketball star freshman guard Mikaylah Williams is available but likely will not play against Auburn in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Friday, team officials told The Daily Advertiser prior to the start of the game.
Williams missed LSU's regular season finale against Kentucky last Sunday, the first game she has missed during her freshman campaign. Tigers coach Kim Mulkey said following the team's win over the Wildcats that she could've played but that she was sitting Williams out as a precaution as she's battling plantar fasciitis in her right foot.
Mulkey wants Williams ready for LSU's NCAA Tournament run.
Before the Kentucky game, Williams was seen wearing a walking boot as the team worked through pregame warmups
She was in sneakers in pregame at the SEC Tournament in Bon Secours Wellness Arena but the only thing she was doing was passing the ball to teammate Flau'jae Johnson.
Williams has been one of the top freshmen in women's basketball this season, averaging 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She was a consensus top-two high school recruiting in the 2023 signing class out of Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana.
