LSU women's basketball freshman star Mikaylah Williams won't play vs. Kentucky. Here's why
BATON ROUGE – LSU women's basketball star freshman guard Mikaylah Williams won't play today against Kentucky, team officials tell The Daily Advertiser.
Williams was on the court inside Pete Maravich Assembly Center during team warmups wearing a walking boot.
A team spokesperson told The Advertiser that Williams wearing the boot and not playing against Kentucky (11-18, 4-11) is "precautionary" and that the injury is not expected to impact Williams playing in the SEC Tournament, where LSU (25-4, 12-3) has already clinched the No. 2 seed and double-bye and won't play its first game in Greenville, South Carolina until Friday at 5 p.m.
LSU coach Kim Mulkey is expected to formally address Williams' injury following the game today. Williams has started all 29 games so far this season.
Williams has been one of the top freshmen in women's basketball this season, averaging 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She was a consensus top-two high school recruiting in the 2023 signing class out of Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana.
