LSU women's basketball vs. Ole Miss in SEC Tournament: Score prediction, scouting report
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Kim Mulkey said last week that LSU women's basketball's goal to the win one more game in the SEC Tournament than it has during her tenure so far.
That would mean beating No. 3 seed Ole Miss in the semifinals to get to LSU's first tournament championship game appearance under Mulkey and its first overall since 2012. No. 2 seed LSU opened tournament play in Friday's quarterfinals by defeating No. 7 seed Auburn, 78-48, inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Ole Miss (23-7) moved on to the semis after beating Florida, 84-74 on Friday night.
The Tigers (27-4) outlasted the Rebels on the road in their lone meeting earlier this season, 84-73.
Here's what you need to know about the matchup, which is scheduled for an approximate 6 p.m. CT start on ESPNU.
Ole Miss rides defense to SEC Tournament semifinals
Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and her Rebel defense held their last four regular-season opponents to 51 points or less entering the SEC Tournament. The 74 allowed vs. Florida on Friday was the most points they've given up since losing at No. 1 South Carolina on Feb. 4.
Yes, those four games were against the worst teams in the league: Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri and Arkansas. But there's been a noticeable improvement in Ole Miss' connectivity and communication on defense.
The Rebels boasts the conference's third-best defense, behind South Carolina and Auburn, at 58.1 points per game.
LSU women's basketball will need offensive balance to beat Ole Miss
LSU scored 84 points on the Rebels earlier this season, finding success at all levels of the floor.
Star junior forward Angel Reese paced the Tigers with 21 points as all five starters scored in double figures.
All five starters shot the ball at least 11 times, forcing Ole Miss defenders to stay true to their man when guarding LSU. The sharing of the basketball, the Tigers finished with 15 assists, and spreading out the attempts led to one of LSU's best shooting performances on the season at 47%.
Spreading the wealth on offense will key for LSU as it looks to advance to the SEC Tournament championship game.

Senior forward Snudda Collins has found her stride on offense for the Rebels. She managed 12 points against LSU in the first meeting but wasn't within the first couple of options on offense for Coach Yo's bunch.
But that's changed of late. Collins has led Ole Miss in scoring over two of its last four games and the area where she's helped the team most has been her outside shot. Collins has knocked down 11 of her last 29 3-point attempts.
That's something Ole Miss has needed all season: A consistent, viable threat from the perimeter. Collins seems to be filling that role for the Rebels as March has arrived.

LSU 75, Ole Miss 60: LSU makes it way through another defensive-minded squad in Coach Yo's Rebels. The Tigers work the inside-out game as Hailey Van Lith and other guards knock down shots to propel LSU to the SEC title game.
