LSU women's basketball to face Stanford in SEC/ACC Challenge in 2024-25 season

LSU women's basketball will face Stanford in the annual SEC/ACC Challenge this season as more of Kim Mulkey and the Tigers' 2024-25 schedule continues to come together.

The SEC announced all the matchups between the two conferences for women's and men's basketball during the Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday afternoon.

LSU will host the Cardinal Dec. 5 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers are 2-0 all-time against the Cardinal, the most recent a thrilling 62-59 victory coming in the 2006 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.

The matchup between the Tigers and Cardinal has potential to be a ranked matchup but since the end of last season, there's been plenty of turnover and change for both teams, headlined by the retirement of Hall of Fame Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer. Her prótegé Kate Paye was named her successor, one of VanDerveer's former players and had coached alongside her for the last several seasons.

Stanford is also switching conferences to the ACC from the now defunct PAC-12.

REQUIRED READING LSU women's basketball to play in Aneesah Morrow's hometown at Illinois-Chicago this year

On the floor, a lot of star power between the Tigers and Cardinal has departed, namely Angel Reese and Cameron Brink, who are playing with the Chicago Sky and Los Angeles Sparks, respectively, in the WNBA now, point guard Hailey Van Lith, who transferred from LSU to TCU for her final year of eligibility, as well as forward Kiki Iriafen, who left Stanford and is now at USC.

The SEC/ACC Challenge contest is the fourth nonconference date for LSU that's been filled for the 2024-25 season.

LSU is set to play in-state foe Grambling State in Bossier City at the Brookshire's Grocery Arena Dec. 8, a homecoming game for Tigers sophomore star guard Mikaylah Williams. Then the Tigers are taking part in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase in Uncasville, Connecticut where they will matchup with Seton Hall at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Dec. 17.

A contest at Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 19 marks the other true road game scheduled for Mulkey's team in the nonconference slate to this point in the offseason. That matchup is also a homecoming game as LSU star Aneesah Morrow is from Chicago and it'll be the first time she's played in her hometown since she transferred from DePaul, which is located in Chicago.

Last season, LSU hosted Virginia Tech in the SEC/ACC Challenge for a top 10 regular season game that was a rematch of the 2023 Final Four clash. The Tigers defeated the Hokies, 82-64 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
