Now, with former Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels headed to the NFL, the Tigers need to re-find their identity on offense under quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has sat behind Daniels and 2019 Heisman winner Joe Burrow in his time at LSU.

The Tigers open the season against a tough ranked opponent for the third straight season under Kelly. LSU dropped games in back-to-back seasons against Florida State but face Big Ten newcomer USC in Las Vegas to open the 2024 season on Sunday.

Even with the elimination of divisions in the SEC, the rivalry matchup against Alabama remains on the schedule for the Tigers. LSU was ranked as the No. 12 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, behind fellow SEC teams Georgia (No. 1), Texas (4), Alabama (5), Ole Miss (6) and Missouri (11).
