This LSU football player is switching positions. Here's who and why
BATON ROUGE — An LSU football freshman is making a position switch, coach Brian Kelly said.
Big tight end Trey'Dez Green will be seen more lining up at wide receiver, Kelly told media members during his weekly news conference Monday.
"I think that's what we have to do," Kelly said. "We're probably at a position now where watching him play — all of the complexities of playing the tight end position being eliminated by getting him more in a wide receiver role, I think we're getting to that point where we've made the decision.
"That has to happen."
It has to happen for the No. 8 Tigers (5-1, 2-0 SEC) for a couple of reasons, including the aforementioned ability to allow Green to play more loose and free from thinking about the responsibilities tight ends have in LSU's offensive system.

Also, injuries in the receiving corps has been a significant issue for LSU. Three wide outs missed the Ole Miss game Saturday night: Chris Hilton (stress fracture), Kyle Parker (torn triceps tendon) and C.J. Daniels (knee).
At 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, Green's physical traits allow him to create mismatches just by being on the field for the Tigers. The Zachary native has played in all six of LSU's games this year and has three catches for 22 yards with two touchdowns, including one he caught in the Tigers' overtime win over Ole Miss just this last Saturday.
"He's a talented player. You saw him on the touchdown and how easy it is for him to flash his hands and catch the football," Kelly said of Green. "He gives more versatility.
"I think you're going to see that moving forward."
