LSU football bolsters 2025 recruiting class, adding trio of defensive linemen
The start to the month of July has been quite fruitful on the recruiting front for Brian Kelly and his LSU football team.
Over the span of two days, the Tigers landed commitments from three defensive linemen that fill the biggest need for the team in the 2025 recruiting class.
Four-star pass rusher Damien Shanklin chose LSU over Alabama and Ohio State last Friday. The Indianapolis native ranks as the 110th best overall prospect in this year's class, per the 247Sports Composite, and is rated the 10th-best edge rusher coming out of high school.
Among the 15 players committed for the 2025 recruiting class thus far, Shanklin is the third-highest rated prospect following five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and four-star tailback Harlem Berry.
Kelly, and LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis, earning Shanklin's pledge was even more of a boon as two more defensive linemen were welcomed into the fold.

Davis was able to lure four-star defensive line Brandon Brown, from now SEC rival Texas, on Friday as well. Brown, at 6-2, 286 pounds, has been committed to the Longhorns since December 2023, but when he lent it Davis was the defensive line coach in Austin.
Brown, the Melbourne, Florida native, has ultimately decided again to play for Davis — now in Baton Rouge.
Last Thursday, Lufkin, Texas native Zion Williams lent his pledge to LSU, choosing the Tigers over the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, TCU, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas, Tennessee and a host of other scholarship offers.
Williams is a four-star defensive line prospect per the 247Sports Composite, ranks inside the top-300 nationally and is listed as the 33rd best recruit at his position in the 2025 class. At 6-4, 295, Williams projects to play defensive tackle on the college level, something LSU needs plenty of in this year's class.
LSU is back up to No. 6 in 247Sports' recruiting class rankings for 2025 after spending time earlier this offseason at No. 1. Recent decommitment from wide receiver Dakorien Moore, who announced his commitment to Oregon last week, and cornerback Jaboree Antonie, saw the Tigers fall in the class rankings.
