LSU fined $100,000 by SEC for court storm after dramatic basketball win vs. Kentucky
LSU fans made the most of the euphoria and excitement of the Tigers’ last-second 75-74 victory against Kentucky Wednesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, rushing the court after the buzzer sounded to celebrate with the winning team.
Fewer than 24 hours later, the bill for that came due.
LSU has been fined $100,000 by the SEC for fans running on to the court, the league announced Thursday.

The court-storming was a violation of a conference policy stating that the playing surface is limited to athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and others with proper credentials or authorization. The policy cites the safety of the game’s participants and fans as the reason for the rule. The measure was adopted by the conference in 2004, with the penalty raised to its current level in 2023.
Those fines are imposed for violations in any SEC-sponsored sport. A second violation earns a school a $250,000 fine while a third and any subsequent incident comes with a $500,000 fine.
Wednesday’s court-storming came following the dramatic finish to the Tigers’ victory against No. 17 Kentucky. Trailing 74-73 with five seconds remaining, LSU guard Jordan Wright drove to the basket for a layup, but his attempt was swatted away by Kentucky’s Adou Thiero. Wright regained control of the ball, though, and tossed it back up to teammate Tyrell Ward near the rim, who tipped it in for the winning basket before time expired.
Ward finished with a team-high 17 points while guiding the Tigers to a victory in a game in which they trailed by as many as 15 in the second half.
