LSU opened Saturday picking up from Wednesday's victory over Ole Miss, as the Tigers (11-7, 3-2 SEC) scored the first nine points. This was one of the few times either team took a significant lead, as Texas A&M (11-7, 3-2) responded by scoring 10 points after the first media timeout and cutting the deficit to five.

The Aggies continued battling back, briefly taking the lead at the half's final media timeout before the Tigers took a two-point lead into the locker room.

Texas A&M responded to LSU's 9-0 run to open the first half with one of its own to open the second, but the Tigers came back to take a one-point lead with under 12 minutes remaining. Over the next few minutes of game time, both teams traded runs until the final media timeout, when they were tied.

The Aggies took the lead after and never relinquished it. But LSU had one final chance to tie with just 12 seconds left in regulation. However, Jalen Cook's last-chance shot fell no good, clinching the loss for the Tigers — LSU's first defeat at home in 2024.

Hot from three

Prior to this week, the Tigers made at least 10 threes only three times, only once against a high-major opponent. On Wednesday against Ole Miss, LSU made 10 of its 21 attempts — the first time since the calendar turned to 2024 the Tigers broke double digits. Against Texas A&M, LSU one-upped itself by making 11 shots from beyond the arc.

Aggies own the glass

In the first meeting between these two, second-chance points proved to be the difference as the Tigers managed 18, while limiting the Aggies to just three. On Saturday, Texas A&M flipped the script. Due to its 21 offensive rebounds, TAMU scored 27 second-chance points while shutting out LSU on its six offensive rebounds.

Ward back in double digits

Throughout most of December, sophomore forward Tyrell Ward made little impact scoring. Since conference play began, he found his stroke. He played 22 minutes against the Aggies, his second-most in the SEC, and scored 10 points on 50% shooting, his third consecutive conference game in double figures
