It was a disappointing outcome for MLS during the MLS All-Star Game at Lower.com Field on Wednesday.

The MLS All-Stars fell to the Liga MX All-Stars 4-1, marking the first time the league has lost to Mexico's Liga MX since they started facing off at the event in 2021. This was the first time that Columbus hosted the Liga MX All-Stars, with 2005 being the last time the MLS All-Star Game was played in Columbus.

On the Crew's home field, the only MLS player to score in the game was Columbus' striker Cucho Hernandez. Hernandez's goal came off an assist from Crew teammate Diego Rossi.

The MLS roster was missing multiple big-name players, who were ruled out for the event due to injury. In particular, Inter Miami's Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were absent from the event.

Final: Liga MX takes 2024 MLS All-Star game

Liga MX easily handled the MLS All-Stars Wednesday night, beating MLS 4-1 at Lower.com Field with four goals from German Beterame, Oussama Idrissi, Juan Brunetta and Maximiliano Meza. Cucho Hernandez scored the MLS' only goal.

The FC Cincinnati forward took the first shot in the second minute which was saved by goalkeeper Luis Malagon.

Columbus Crew record at MLS All-Star break 

Through 23 games, the Crew are the No. 3 team in the Eastern Conference. They are second in MLS with 47 goals scored, and lead the MLS with 22 goals allowed. The Crew also lead the league with a plus-25 goal differential.

How did Cucho Hernandez do in MLS Skills Challenge? 

Taking part in the MLS All-Star Skill Challenge Tuesday night, Cucho Hernandez did something he’s always wanted to do in a Crew uniform, hit a bicycle kick goal.

Hernandez and the MLS All-Stars fell short against the Liga MX All-Stars, 3-2. Hernandez participated in the shooting challenge, touch challenge where he teamed up with FC Cincinnati star Luciano Acosta, and the crossbar challenge.

Is Lionel Messi playing in the MLS All-Star Game? 

Lionel Messi will not play in the 2024 MLS All-Star Game Wednesday.

The Inter Miami star suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle playing for Argentina at the Copa America Final July 14. He missed Miami’s two games leading into the All-Star break.

Messi posted a picture with wife Antonela Roccuzzo and teammate Luis Suarez, an MLS All-Star who is missing the game with a knee injury, on a boat seemingly outside of Columbus.

Messi has not faced the Crew yet during his MLS career.
