‘Only speak my truth’: Browns QB Deshaun Watson talks about new lawsuit

BEREA, Ohio (WJW) — Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson spoke to the media Wednesday afternoon following a blowout game Sunday and a new lawsuit against him coming to light.

While he largely wanted to stick to the topic of football, reporters attempted to ask him about his ongoing legal troubles, with him now being accused of sexual assault and battery (which he vehemently denies).

“The time being, I’m focusing on Jacksonville,” he said, explaining the statement released by his lawyer Wednesday was sufficient. He also said he found out about the lawsuit the same time the public did.

High level meeting on Browns stadium leads to no decision

The Browns are looking to forget the disastrous 33-17 season opener loss against the Dallas Cowboys, and, as head coach Kevin Stefanski likes to say, just focus on one game at a time. They’re headed to Florida next to take on on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. Sunday.

When it comes to the matter of trust on the field and off the field, Watson said his sense is that it’s there.

“I can’t speak for the fans or anyone outside this building, but I hear from the Haslams [owners] and [GM Andrew Berry], and they say they have my back. I can only speak my truth,” he said.

Watson, who was clear he didn’t want to give any excuses, did admit the offensive line has more work to do before their next game and that “It’s going to take a little bit to figure out what we’re good at.”
