Listen: Dan Dickerson gets hyped on final out of Detroit Tigers win over Astros in Game 1

The Detroit Tigers, behind a stellar performance from Tarik Skubal in his MLB playoff debut, pulled off the Game 1 upset, 3-1, at the Houston Astros on Tuesday afternoon in the best-of-three wild-card series.

The Tigers escaped a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning from the heart of the Astros' lineup, with Beau Brieske getting the final out on a line drive to Spencer Torkelson at first with the bases loaded to clinch the victory. It's the first Tigers' win in the postseason since Oct. 16, 2013 — Game 4 of the ALCS vs. Boston.

And you better believe longtime radio play-by-play announcer Dan Dickerson was ready for the moment at Minute Maid Park. He tested the range of his microphone volume with an emphatic confirmation that Torkelson pulled down the line drive, then let out a chuckle of relief as he read the final score. Dickerson showed the true range of emotions October baseball brings in just 10 seconds.

"A little higher and it's into the corner but Spencer Torkelson grabs it, pumps his fist and the Tigers take Game 1 in Houston," Dickerson said.

The Tigers are now one win away from advancing to the ALDS for a best-of-five battle against the Cleveland Guardians. The Tigers have not announced who will be starting Game 2 on Wednesday yet, but won't likely be Brieske, who has sometimes been used as an opener in the Tigers' pitching chaos, after his nerve-wracking save.
