Les Miles dances on stage with Rick Ross at KU spring game
Les Miles’ first big recruit as head coach of the University of Kansas might not have any college eligibility left, but he sure knows how to draw a crowd.
The Mad Hatter brought out rapper Rick Ross after the completion of the KU spring game and turned the oft sparsely attended event into a must-see campus event. And Miles added to his own legend by taking the stage with Ross and dancing around with The Boss himself.

This wasn’t just a one-off for Miles, either. Players around KU’s program said that leading up to show the coach was playing Ross’ music before meetings and he would continuously imitate the rapper’s gruff voice and ad-libs.
Leaning in to his acting days, Miles also cut a promo for the event on Twitter that’s as must-watch as the spring game itself:
It’s officially OFFICIAL. @RickRoss will be performing at Late Night Under the Lights pic.twitter.com/Qpqs8td9RL

The media asked me yesterday if I had a favorite @RickRoss song. After going through my collection I found this Boss remix with @TPAIN I really like!

This is normally the part where the jokes about KU football begin to write themselves, except Miles’ ploy of bringing in a big name musical guest already paid dividends for the program.
The Jayhawks reportedly had 70 recruits on hand for the spring game — including 2019 signees and 2020 targets — which is a big deal for a team that has struggled to fill scholarship slots since the days of Charlie Weis.
Among the attendees were four-star quarterback T.J. Finley, three-star offensive tackle Larry Moore and three-star wideout Keith Miller to go with players visiting from Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and across Kansas.
It might not be much, but Miles will take any hype he can get in Lawrence. Even if it means video of him dancing awkwardly with Rick Ross will live on the internet forever.
