Notre Dame's Lee Kiefer becomes first American with 3 Olympic fencing gold medals

Lee Kiefer has won three Olympic gold medals in foil fencing, the most for any American.

Kiefer, a 30-year-old Notre Dame alum, defeated 21-year-old Harvard student and U.S. teammate Lauren Scruggs 15-6 in the final match at the 2024 Paris Games. Kiefer helped Team USA upset favored Italy to win gold in the team foil event.

Kiefer was the first U.S. foil fencer to earn an Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Kiefer has been on the U.S. national team since she was 15 and has competed at three Olympics. Kiefer owns 11 World Championships medals, including gold in individual foil (2010) and team foil (2018).
