Lakers coaching rumors: Latest report is good news for potential head coach JJ Redick

The Los Angeles Lakers head coach hunt has continued to gain traction with potential candidates, each bringing their unique expertise and experience to the table, including ESPN's analyst JJ Redick.

According to The Athletic, the Lakers have had their first official interviews. Redick, New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego and Boston Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell have met with the team.

Sources also told The Athletic that the Lakers' candidate pool also includes Denver Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman, known for his strategic approach to the game, Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, who has a strong track record in player development, and Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn, whom the organization hopes to meet with due to his reputation for fostering a winning culture.

Los Angeles Lakers interest in Redick

Though the Los Angeles Lakers search for the next head coach is in the begging phases, sources have informed The Athletic that the Lakers are "enamored with Redick's potential and see him as a coaching prospect similar to Pat Riley, who could assist the franchise in the short term and lead it for years."

Redick caught the front office's attention after expressing interest in transitioning to coaching. Despite lacking coaching experience, he has said on various podcasts that he is open to make the shift.

Who is JJ Redick?

Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA Draft from Duke University.

Redick played seven seasons in Orlando, then a short time with the Milwaukee Bucks, and four seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. After spending a few more years with various teams on short-term contracts, Redick retired from the NBA in September 2021. He is now working as a sports analyst for ESPN.

Redick hosts several podcasts, such as Mind the Game with LeBron James and The Old Man & the Three with Tommy Alter.
