High school football teams in Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas are getting to the meat and potatoes of the 2024 schedule.

Every district game is a crucial one as teams are grinding it out for victories that can land them a spot in the postseason. Last week, 23 teams came away with a win and got one step closer to their goals. For five teams, winning is all they’ve done so far this season. Ascension Episcopal, Jeanerette, St. Edmund, Teurlings Catholic, and Vermilion Catholic are the last standing undefeated teams in the 337.

After this week the number will at least drop by one with Vermilion Catholic facing Ascension Episcopal in a battle between two 6-0 squads. The teams who have yet to win a game so far at this point of the season are Comeaux, Breaux Bridge, Eunice, and Abbeville. Loreauville broke its losing streak with a 58-0 shutout win over Delcambre.

Comeaux football’s losing streak will continue this week after it was announced on Tuesday that its Week 7 matchup vs St. Thomas More would be forfeited due to a postgame altercation with North Vermilion football on Oct. 11. North Vermilion will also forfeit this week’s game thus canceling Teurling Catholic’s homecoming game that was set for this Friday.
