Kirby Smart addresses Georgia football RB Trevor Etienne's status for Ole Miss game

Georgia football is gearing up for a road test at No. 12 Ole Miss, which boasts the SEC’s highest-scoring offense.

Will the Bulldogs' own offensive firepower include top running back Trevor Etienne?

The Florida transfer left the Bulldogs’ 34-20 win over the Gators on Saturday in the first half in Jacksonville with a rib injury and he did not return.

Coach Kirby Smart addressed Etienne’s status Monday before the Bulldogs began practicing for the Rebels.

“Etienne, I feel good about," Smart said. "He felt good yesterday and did some things yesterday with our guys. I don't know a lot until we go out there and practice today, but we'll certainly see how he feels. But the trainer feels good about it. The big thing is just being his ability to sustain and deal with a little bit of pain."

Etienne high fived fans up in the stands after the game, but didn’t jump up to celebrate with them like some of his teammates.

Etienne has rushed for 453 yards and seven touchdowns on 89 carries and has 20 catches for 130 yards. He had 31 yards on seven carries before exiting the game.

Freshman Nate Frazier had a season-high 19 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown against Florida.

Walk-on running back Cash Jones had three catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Smart said of Frazier after Saturday’s win: “We've got to show confidence in him and play because a back can't make it through this league trying to do it by himself. And I thought he did some good things tonight. He had a couple mistakes. I'm not talking about the (unsportsmanlike penalty). He had a couple mistakes that can cost us. He has really gotten better at his protection. I'm fired up about him in protection. He is not shy of contact. But he's got to get vertical and not try to outrun everything to the sideline."
