Kentucky high school sports spring standouts: Meet top 5 boys teams from Louisville area
With the 2023-24 high school sports season now complete, it’s time to look back at some of the top Louisville-area boys teams from the spring.
Listed below are five standout squads from the 2024 season. Teams from the following counties were eligible: Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer.

Collegiate track and field
The Titans finished second in the Class A state meet behind Beechwood. Senior Oliver Veliquette won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, junior Roman Sierpina won the 1,600 and sophomore James Gurley won the 3,200.
Pleasure Ridge Park baseball
The Panthers won their seventh state championship, beating McCracken County 4-1 in the final to complete a 40-3 season. Junior outfielder Brayden Bruner was named Sixth Region Player of the Year and received first-team All-State honors. Freshman pitcher Joey Dudeck went 11-0 with a 1.51 ERA.
St. Xavier tennis
The Tigers reached the semifinals of the state tournament before falling to eventual champion Covington Catholic 3-1. The doubles team of junior Walker Bush and sophomore Aditya Shah finished as state runners-up.
St. Xavier track and field
The Tigers claimed their fifth straight Class 3A state championship. Junior James Burnett won the 400, and senior Ashton Jones won the discus.
Trinity lacrosse
The Shamrocks won the Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League title for the first time since 2017, beating South Oldham 12-2 in the final to complete an 18-2 season. Junior Sam Alexander, a long-stick midfielder, was named Mr. Lacrosse.
