Kansas football vs West Virginia: Recap from Big 12 Conference game in Week 4

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — After a severe weather delay, Kansas football (1-3) ultimately lost control of the Big 12 Conference game and lost 32-28 against West Virginia (2-2).
Kansas held a lead late, but West Virginia battled back. The Jayhawks have suffered a heartbreaking defeat. This is a third-straight loss for KU.
Kansas football will look to enjoy similar momentum-building moment against West Virginia
Here is more on what happened:
FINAL: West Virginia 32, Kansas 28
West Virginia drove for a game-winning score, adding a touchdown and extra point with 0:26 left in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. Quarterback Garrett Greene threw a touchdown pass to give the Mountaineers the lead. Kansas then wasn't able to score in what little time it had left, and turned the ball over on a fumble on its last possession.
West Virginia responds with touchdown, two-point conversion
West Virginia has closed the gap to 28-25 with 3:27 left in the fourth quarter, after a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Quarterback Garrett Greene found tight end Kole Taylor for an eight-yard touchdown pass. The drive took 2:12 off of the clock and went 75 yards in nine plays.
Kansas adds another touchdown
Kansas extend its lead to 28-17 with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter with another touchdown drive. Wide receiver Luke Grimm scored on a 32-yard rush. The drive lasted 3:40 and went 54 yards in six plays.

Mello Dotson interception doesn't lead to points
Kansas had another takeaway in the third quarter, on an interception by senior cornerback Mello Dotson. But the Jayhawks couldn't drive for points. They punted, and West Virginia took over with 1:31 left in the third quarter at its own 23.
Kansas takes its 1st lead
With 4:30 left in the third quarter, Kansas took its first lead on an 11-yard touchdown run by running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. The drive went 75 yards in five plays, and took 2:33 off of the clock. After the extra point, Kansas leads 21-17.
West Virginia hits a field goal
A West Virginia drive that started with a 52-yard pass ended with a field goal, as Kansas' defense was able to make a stand and get a stop on third down. The drive lasted 2:05 and went 53 yards in five plays. The 40-yard field goal gave the Mountaineers a 17-14 lead with 7:03 left in the third quarter.
Kansas ties the score again
Kansas and West Virginia are tied up again, this time at 14-14 with 9:08 left in the third quarter after a touchdown drive and the ensuing extra point. The drive, outside of the touchdown, include a couple significant plays — a fourth-down conversion and a long gain on a reverse. Quarterback Jalon Daniels found wide receiver Luke Grimm for a seven-yard touchdown.

West Virginia scores late
West Virginia leads again, this time 14-7, after a touchdown drive and the ensuing extra point. The drive took 1:17 off of the clock and went 34 yards in eight plays. Quarterback Garrett Greene had a five-yard rushing score, and the Mountaineers lead with 0:25 left in the second quarter.
Kansas ties the score
A long, 13-play, 83-yard drive that took 6:16 off of the clock ended in a touchdown for the Jayhawks. Kansas running back Devin Neal scored on an 11-yard run. After the extra point, it's 7-7 with 7:31 left in the second quarter.
Kansas comes up with key defensive stop
Kansas saw quarterback Jalon Daniels throw yet another interception this season in the first quarter, but the West Virginia drive didn't lead to points. Jayhawks cornerback Cobee Bryant intercepted a pass after the Mountaineers reached the red zone. With 13:47 left in the second quarter, KU takes over still trailing WVU 7-0.

West Virginia opens scoring with touchdown
West Virginia strikes first with a three-play, 78-yard scoring drive that took 1:10 off of the clock. The Mountaineers move the ball mostly through the air, but scored a touchdown on a one-yard run by running back Jahiem White. After the extra point, WVU leads 7-0 with 5:16 left in the first quarter.
Kansas football punts on its 1st drive on offense
Kansas football failed to reach the 50 yard line, and ultimately punted on its first drive offensively, too. Quarterback Jalon Daniels was sacked on a third down play. After the punt, West Virginia will take over from its own 22 yard line for 1st and 10 with 6:26 remaining in the first quarter.
Kansas football gets a stop on its 1st defensive drive
West Virginia drove across midfield in its first drive of the game offensively, but wasn't able to come away with points. The Jayhawks saw cornerback Cobee Bryant break up a pass on a third down to force the punt. Kansas will take over at its own 8 yard line for 1st and 10 with 11:32 remaining in the first quarter.
