Kansas football running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. returns to action against West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Kansas football running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. has returned to action, in the Jayhawks’ game Saturday at West Virginia.
Hishaw missed last week’s home loss against UNLV with what a KU official described as an illness. During the week leading up to this game against West Virginia, Kansas coach Lance Leipold described Hishaw’s status as questionable. But in the first quarter against the Mountaineers, Hishaw played.

Hishaw’s return provides the Jayhawks with one of the best running back duos in the Big 12 Conference. Devin Neal, a senior, and Hishaw, a redshirt junior, have complimentary talents that make them an asset for assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes. Grimes mentioned earlier this week, too, that Kansas will play with both of them on the field at the same time more.
Ahead of this game, Hishaw had rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Neal had 333 yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries. Having Hishaw available also means Neal won’t have to carry so much of the load at the position.
