Jonathan Daniels talks building relationship with O-line group, Jamorie Flagg talks journey to Florida state

As freshmen get comfortable in the Florida State football program, some of the top recruits are getting advice from established veterans.

That's what freshman offensive lineman Jonathan Daniels has been doing with starting offensive tackle Darius Washington.

During Tuesday's incoming freshmen media availability, Daniels spoke about his long-time relationship with Washington.

He has known the six-year offensive tackle since he was a freshman in high school and the pair have been close since.

“When it came down to Florida State, I always talk to Darius,” Daniels said.

"Me and Darius start kind of like build that big brother, little brother bond. He'll check up on me. He'll make sure everything is good with me, how FSU is going and how it's going to be, and what my biggest things to work on.”

Daniels, who is expected to play right tackle, also described Washington as a motivational speaker who everyone can turn to for advice. Washington has become a leader who looks out for his teammates, especially the linemen.

"He’s very motivational," Daniels said.

"He makes sure you are straight. He checks on me every day. If I don’t know a play here, he’ll help me out, so just, like, it's that relationship how you are building one-on-one time with everybody and get that help that you need."

Daniels entered his first football camp as a defensive player. As he started to get noticed, people pointed out that he looked more like an offensive lineman than a defensive lineman.

"Everybody was going around and asking, ‘Do he look like a defensive player?’ or ‘Do you look like he could play o-line,'" Daniels said.

"So after that camp, I started to play o-line, and ever since then, everything has taken off for me. That's when I started getting offers and stuff like that."

After that day, he committed to it. Daniels became a four-star prospect as an offensive tackle and was rated as the No. 44 player in Florida, according to 247 Sports.

Daniels mentioned that he took serious steps in developing his techniques as a lineman after attending camps.

"I first paid attention to it when I was at a camp," Daniels said about his rankings.

"Like the fundamental is how everybody breaks everything down to me and learning the plays like what I have to do.

So it's like, it was a journey I wouldn’t to say it was easy, but I was picking up on everything how it was going day by day with playing o-line.”

Jamorie Flagg was asked about his connection with defensive line coach Odell Haggins.

He responded with a big smile on his face.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Odell. He will give you tough love. It’s a great relationship."

Flagg, a three-star defensive lineman out of Miami, has been an FSU commit since last December. Haggins played a massive role throughout his recruiting process.

"I was so loyal to FSU because of the bond with Coach Odell built over the years,” Flagg said. “It wasn't really about football. It was more about becoming a man and school.

It just grabbed my attention in a different way. I just knew that he was just so genuine. That's my kind of person, so I just like to stay in contact with him.”

Flagg can play anywhere on the interior front. He tries to emulate the game of New York Jets All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

"I feel like I fit his play style,” Flagg said. That’s how I want to play."
