Joel Embiid explains how he'll handle French crowd ahead of gold medal game
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid played a key role in Team USA's thrilling comeback win over Serbia on Thursday as he scored seven of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. He also played a key role in slowing down superstar Nikola Jokic and making big contributions in the win.
Embiid will now look to lead the Americans into the gold medal game against host country France on Saturday afternoon. There will undoubtedly be a lot of animosity towards the 2023 NBA MVP due to his decision to play for Team USA rather than France in these Olympic Games. Embiid has received a lot of boos and jeers from the French crowd and he has done a great job of handling it all.
Embiid was dancing after the win over Serbia as the boos rained down from the rafters of Bercy Arena in Paris. The big fella trolled in only a way he can and he also performed the DX "suck it" chop after it was all over.
As he prepares for the gold medal game, he explained how he will handle a certainly hostile French crowd.
Joel Embiid, on what he expects from the French crowd tomorrow:
“They’re going to boo me, I’m going to go back at them and tell them to suck it.”— Mike Finger (@mikefinger) August 9, 2024
Embiid and Team USA will need to avoid the slow start they had against Serbia. They trailed by as many as 17 and trailed by double digits in the fourth quarter. The Americans will need to bring it to another level with so much on the line on Saturday afternoon.
