Jim Schlossnagle contract buyout: What Texas baseball coach owes Aggies after leaving for Longhorns

Less than 24 hours after telling reporters he didn't plan on ever taking another college baseball job, Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle is set to take the reins at Texas, the Austin American-Statesman confirmed Tuesday.

Schlossnagle, who fell in Game 3 of the College World Series final to No. 1 Tennessee on Monday night, said after the 6-5 loss that "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."

The 53-year-old took the Aggies to the CWS twice in his three seasons in College Station, holding a 135-62 record at the program. He took the Texas A&M job after 18 seasons at TCU, where he led the Horned Frogs to the CWS five times.

Texas likely had to pay up to swoon Schlossnagle to leave Texas A&M, which not only achieved its highest-ever NCAA baseball tournament seed (No. 3) in 2024, but it also reached the College World Series finals for the first time in program history.

As Schlossnagle takes over for Texas, here's what you need to know about his contract and buyout information with the Aggies:

Jim Schlossnagle contract

Schlossnagle's new contract at Texas has yet to be reported or announced, but he will almost certainly receive a pay increase from his $1.35 million base salary with Texas A&M for the 2024 season (not including a $110,000 bonus from Wilson, which brought his 2024 salary to $1.46 million).

Schlossnagle's Texas A&M contract, which was signed through 2029, was set to increase by $50,000 in base salary each season, paying him $1.4 million in 2025 and capping at $1.6 million in 2029. Starting with the 2025 contract year, he was due $7.5 million in base salary over the remainder of his contract with the Aggies.
