Jim Schlossnagle to Texas baseball: Reactions as Texas A&M coach leaves for Longhorns

Chris Del Conte has his new man to lead Texas baseball into the SEC.

Less than 24 hours after telling reporters after Game 3 of the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska that he wasn't leaving Texas A&M, Jim Schlossnagle is leaving the Aggies to coach the Longhorns, as confirmed by the Austin-American-Statesmen's Danny Davis.

"I think it's pretty selfish of you you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind. That's unfair to talk about something like that," Schlossngale said Monday at Charles Schwab Field.

"That would be like you asking Montgomery if he's going to sign in the draft," Schlossnagle told reporters after the Aggies' Game 3 loss. "But I understand you've got to ask the question. But I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job. And I poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I gave this job every ounce I could possibly give it. Write that."

Schlossnagle is coming off his third year at Texas A&M and one that ended with a trip to the College World Series championship series, one in which the Aggies lost to No. 1 national seed Tennessee 2-1 in the best-of-three championship series. Prior to coaching at Texas A&M, Schlossnagle coached at TCU from 2004 through 2021.

Considering what Schlossnagle said Monday when asked about the open job at Texas, after the Longhorns fired David Pierce on Monday, the news of Schlossnagle leaving for the Longhorns sent a shock through the college baseball world.
