Jaysoni Beachum surpasses Sydney Sherill's freshman record for most RBI in single season
Jaysoni Beachum is officially in the record books.
The first-year slugger broke the freshman record for most RBI in a season (59), which was originally held by former Florida State softball great Sydney Sherill.
The record happened in the bottom of the first after Beachum hit a single to right field, sending Kayle Mudge to home plate and giving the Seminoles their first score against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

On the night before, Beachum hit a walk-off three-run homer that ended in a run-rule against the Tar Heels. She tied the RBI record and put her seventh most RBI in a single season in program history. Her historic season is only the beginning as she is also on pace to break the school record for batting average in a single season, which is held by Danielle Cox (.432).
The Tallahassee native is one of the nation's top hitters with a 444 batting average. She was recently named ACC Player of the Week and is among the top 25 finalists for Tucci/NFCA National Freshman of the Year.
"She is smart and she really understands the game," head coach Lonni Almenda said about Beachum. Those players that you can say, hey, look for this or think about this, and they're right away they are looking at you in the game and making high contact ... this is what you're talking about right now, and you're like, yeah that's super cool, and that's Jay, and so to have that for her first year to know that we have three more years of that is going to be a lot of fun."
Seminoles get another win by run-rule
For the third consecutive game, the Seminoles were victorious thanks to the run-rule. On Saturday, FSU beat the Tar Heels 11-3 in six innings. The Seminoles have won 13 straight and 21 of the last 22 games.
At first, the Seminoles were down 2-0 in the first inning after Sanaa Thompson hit a triple that led to a two-run score.
The Seminoles would respond back by producing at least one run in five of the last six innings. Beachum went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a .456 batting average.
Jahni Kerr led FSU with 4 RBI after hitting a two-run homer in the bottom third and a double in the bottom six to clinch the game. Emma Wilson became the winning pitcher after lasting 3.1 innings.
The Seminoles will return to JoAnne Graf Field on Sunday at noon to complete their three-game series against the Tar Heels.
