Jackson State women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed: 'No comment' about her expiring contract
Jackson State's women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed enters the 2023-24 basketball season on a contract that expires the week before the Final Four.
Asked at the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason media day Tuesday about the status of her contract, Reed told the Clarion Ledger, “No comment.”
Jackson State athletics director Ashley Robinson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Reed's status beyond this season.
Reed, the Tigers' coach since 2018, signed a four-year contract extension on July 15, 2020, that pays her $495,000 spread across 88 semi-monthly installments. That contract expires March 31, 2024.
Reed has delivered as Jackson State's coach. In five seasons, Reed has a 99-47 record. The Tigers won SWAC tournament titles and NCAA Tournament berths in 2021 and 2022, and the Tigers advanced to the WNIT this past season.

She has guided JSU to the SWAC tournament final for three consecutive seasons and to the semifinals four consecutive seasons. Last season, the Tigers beat a Power Five team, Texas Tech, and the previous season nearly upset No. 3-ranked LSU in the NCAA Tournament.
She is a three-time recipient of the SWAC Coach of the Year award, and this summer, Reed was selected to the NCAA Division I Oversight Committee.
Jackson State opens its 2023-24 season at home against LeMoyne-Owen on Nov. 7 at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
