IU men’s basketball adds Illinois 3-point threat Luke Goode from transfer portal
BLOOMINGTON – Illinois transfer Luke Goode is headed back to his home state.
The 6-7 wing/forward from Fort Wayne committed to Indiana on Friday, handing Mike Woodson a Big Ten-proven 3-point threat with tremendous experience in the league. Goode is a career 38.8% 3-point shooter who made essentially that many of his 157 attempts last season, helping Illinois win the Big Ten tournament and reach the Elite Eight.
After entering the portal Monday, Goode’s process moved swiftly. Indiana had a long-standing need for 3-point help, and after adding multiple creative guards in this portal cycle, the Hoosiers now have a catch-and-shoot threat who can make the most of that creativity.

Across 78 games in three seasons at Illinois, Goode never shot under 37% from behind the 3-point line in any single campaign. His spot-up shooting made him a key contributor this past winter, to one of the best floor-spacing offenses in the league. Now, he will bring that ability to Bloomington.
Woodson and his staff recruited a handful of volume shooters in this portal cycle, including Wisconsin's Connor Essegian and Florida Gulf Coast's Zach Anderson. But none so intensely as Goode, whose family ties to IU run deep. His father, Craig, played football for the Hoosiers, as did his uncle, former Rams and Chiefs quarterback Trent Green.
By Friday afternoon, the erstwhile Homestead star was ready to trade in Illinois orange and blue for Indiana cream and crimson. He becomes the latest in a series of meaningful and potentially important wins for IU in this portal cycle.
Goode’s commitment leaves Woodson with two scholarships open for next season. IU is expected to pursue further frontcourt depth, after adding Arizona transfer Oumar Ballo earlier this month, while Clemson guard (and Newburgh native) Alex Hemenway could become a target as well. Hemenway entered the portal late this week.
