Isaiah Bond injury: What Steve Sarkisian said of Texas football WR's outlook

DALLAS ― Texas football wide receiver Isaiah Bond suffered an ankle injury in the Longhorns' 34-3 victory Saturday over Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl, coach Steve Sarkisian said.

Bond left the game in the second quarter, walking off the field in apparent discomfort after quarterback Quinn Ewers targeted him on third down. He never returned.

"He did it early," Sarkisian said. "Then he kind of re-aggravated it again later in the game. We'll just continue to monitor him."

Texas performed well in Bond's absence. His direct replacement, Ryan Wingo, caught a 44-yard pass to set up a touchdown on the next Longhorns' drive. He finished the afternoon with two receptions for 49 yards.

On defense, the Longhorns spent the game teeing off on freshman Oklahoma quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. That meant the Sooners couldn't put any pressure on the Texas offense with Bond out of the game.

His status will be key for next week, though, with Georgia traveling to Royal-Memorial Stadium for a battle of top-five teams.

Texas is deep at wideout. But Bond, with 369 receiving yards and four total touchdowns on the season, is the Longhorns' top option.
