Instant analysis: Bills overcome sloppy start to demolish Titans in Week 7 win

The Buffalo Bills overcame a sluggish first half to defeat the Tennessee Titans, 34-10, in Week 7 action.

The Bills entered half time down 10-7. However, Buffalo was thorughly dominated on both sides of the ball, as the Titans outgained the Bills by more than a two-to-one margin (221-90). Buffalo went did not convert a third down in the first half, failing to move the sticks on five third-down occassions.

The secon half was a different story, as the Bills completely took control of the game. The defnse limited the Titans to only 9 yards of offense in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the Bills added to the scoreboard with touchdowns to Amari Cooper, Ty Johnson, and Ray Davis.

Buffalo moves to 5-2 on the season, clearing their AFC East foes by two games in the standings.

The turning point

The game took a massive swing in momentum on the opening drive of the third quarter. Tennessee attempted a fourth-down conversion from their 44-yard line. The defensive line stuffed Tony Pollard on the attempt, sending the running back backwards for three yards.

From that point forward, it was all Buffalo. The Bills took the lead on the subsequent offensive drive. From there, Buffalo rattled off 34 unanswered points.

The defense then locked it down, giving up fewer than 10 yards in third quarter. They put a cherry on top with a fourth-quarter interception.

Slow start, big finish

The Bills were only down by three at halftime. However, the offense looked out of sync, ending drives with punts on five occassions. The defense was getting gashed on the ground. Tennessee outgained the Bills by more than a two-to-one margin. They were being dominated in the trenches.

The Bills theme of coming out strong in the second half continued this week.

Buffalo's offense scored 27 points in the second half, moving the ball easily through the Titans defense. Josh Allen threw two touchdowns, Ray Davis added a score with the ground game, and Tyler Bass was perfect with his kicking duties.

Defensively, the Bills shut out the Titans in the second half. The unit ended the day with three sacks and an interception.

  • Josh Allen threw for 323 yards. It was the 26th time in his career that he exceeded the 300-yard plateau. Allen went 21-of-33 and two touchdown passes.

  • The Bills were outgained 221-90 yards on offense in the first half. The Bills ended the game with 389 total yards, while Tennesse could only muster 68 yards total after a solid first half.

  • Keon Coleman recorded his first 100-yard receiving day, ending the day with 125 yards on four receptions.

  • Greg Rousseau recorded six quarterback hits. He registered five total tackles and one-half sack on the afternoon.

  • Khalil Shakir led the Bills with seven receptions. He totaled 65 yards with his catches.

Buffalo travels out west for an interconference matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks defeated the Atlanta Falcons to take a half-game lead in the NFC West standings at press time.
