IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year standings
In the two-horse race for the 2024 IndyCar Rookie of the Year crown, Linus Lundqvist continues to hold a sizable lead over his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, though the gap between the two marginally shrunk after Sunday's race at Portland. Lundqvist started 21st and finished 23rd, earning 7 points, while Simpson started at the back of the field after making an unapproved engine change but moved up to 16th and added 14 to his season total.
Here's where things stand with three races to go:
Linus Lundqvist, Chip Ganassi Racing (216 points)
Kyffin Simpson, Chip Ganassi Racing (152)
IndyCar Series Leaders Circle standings
IndyCar's Leaders Circle program awards teams just over $1 million the following season to eligible teams' full-season entries that finish in the top 22 in points. The seven entries around the cutline only marginally changed following the action at Portland this weekend, with AJ Foyt Racing's No. 41 (driven all year by Sting Ray Robb) moving into a tie for 20th-place with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's No. 30 (driven by Pietro Fittipaldi) at 156 points apiece.
As IndyCar does with its driver championship, ties are broken first by the number of wins each entries has. When no wins are in the picture, the team with the highest 'best finish' of the season among the tied entries.
Lower down, Ed Carpenter Racing's No. 20 (split by Christian Rasmussen and Ed Carpenter) and Juncos Hollinger Racing's No. 78 (now driven by Conor Daly) are now tied for that crucial final spot in the standings at 141 apiece. With more than 10 points to the next closest car above and below them, the true battle is starting to home in on Daly, the former ECR driver cut midseason a year ago, and his former boss Carpenter, who will finish the season's slate with only three oval races remaining.
Here are the standings around the cutline:
19. Meyer Shank Racing No. 66: 164 points
T20. AJ Foyt Racing No. 41: 156 (best finish of 9th)
T20. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing No. 30: 156 (best finish of 13th)
T22. Ed Carpenter Racing No. 20: 141 (best finish of 9th)
--------------------------------------------------
T22. Juncos Hollinger Racing No. 78: 141 (best finish of 12th)
24. Dale Coyne Racing No. 51: 133
25. Dale Coyne Racing No. 18: 107
