The Indy 500 is delayed. What's on TV right now instead? When will the race start?
It was announced that due to incoming weather the Indianapolis 500 will be delayed. How does that affect the media coverage?
Here's what we know.
What airs on TV when the race gets delayed?
Those outside of Central Indiana who planned to tune into the race might wonder what's on instead.
The commentators are keeping race fans busy discussing the competition and its history during the delay, including showing highlights from previous Indy 500 races.
Will the race still be shown on TV with the delay?
Yes; the race will continue to air despite the delay, an NBC spokesperson said.
With the delay, will the Indy 500 finish today?
Weather permitting, the Indy 500 could finish today.
IMS has until 5 p.m. (sundown) Sunday to complete 101 laps to declare a winner. Otherwise, the race will have to be postponed.
When will the Indy 500 begin?
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced this morning that due to the weather, the race would have to be delayed.
The race was originally set to start at 12:45 p.m., but due to the rain, a new start time has yet to be announced. Once the rain stops, the track has to be dried before the race can begin and that can take anywhere from 77 to 90 minutes.
Severe weather in Indianapolis
Thunderstorms will move northeast through central Indiana late this morning through mid-afternoon, according to the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
