The IHSA is picking the top 50 high school football programs. Here's the list so far

(This story was updated to add new information.)

Illinois High School Association state finals football is closing in on its 50th birthday.

When the IHSA state championships are played at Hancock Stadium on Nov. 29-30, it will mark the 50th year the football state finals have taken place. To celebrate those last 50 years, the IHSA is releasing its top 50 football programs from the playoff era, which runs from 1974 to 2024.

“It will be a fun way to remember many of the great teams, players, and coaches who have helped make high school sports in Illinois so special," IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said in a release.

The selection committee consists of "current and former high school coaches, administrators, and media members from around the state" helped select the top programs, which will be released at least two per week leading up to the reveal of No. 1 on Nov. 30.
