How did Titans and Falcons odds change after the huge Julio Jones trade?
The Tennessee Titans got very interesting on Sunday.
The Titans were already good team, a defending AFC South champ, but they didn't have a great offseason. Most notably, they were lacking a second option in the passing game to go alongside A.J. Brown. So they went and got a future Hall of Famer.
Tennessee landed Julio Jones in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons, and didn't really give up much to do it. When you upgrade from Josh Reynolds to Jones at the receiver spot opposite Brown, your season outlook is going to change. So will the future odds at BetMGM.
Titans odds to win it all get much shorter
The Titans' season win total was taken down after the trade and wasn't reposted as of Monday morning. It was 9 before the trade and is sure to go up a bit.
The changes in the other future odds at BetMGM reflect how the Titans improved:
Odds to win division
Before trade: +110
After trade: +105
Odds to win AFC
Before trade: +2200
After trade: +1200
Odds to win Super Bowl
Before trade: +4000
After trade: +2500
The Titans are now in a glut of seven teams tied with the ninth-best Super Bowl odds.
The slight change to win the AFC South is interesting. Even though the Titans now have Jones, the odds didn't change much. It seems there's still a lot of faith in the Indianapolis Colts, who are also +105.
What about the Falcons' odds?
If the Titans' odds get better after nabbing Jones, the Falcons' odds had to get worse trading away Jones.
Here are BetMGM's odds changes on the Falcons:
Odds to win division
Before trade: +700
After trade: +900
Odds to win NFC
Before trade: +3500
After trade: +4000
Odds to win Super Bowl
Before trade: +8000
After trade: +10000
It's not like there were high hopes for the Falcons before the trade. And a trade has been expected for weeks. If you believe in the Falcons' ability to practically replace Jones with rookie tight end Kyle Pitts in the passing game, you're getting much better odds now.
Jones switching teams is a big deal for this season. He's 32 years old and has dealt with plenty of injuries, but when healthy he's still an incredible receiver. The Titans got a difference maker. Hopefully if you liked Tennessee's chances to land Jones, you got a couple future bets down on them before Sunday.
