Here's what the FedEx St. Jude Championship purse is and how much the winner will get

The FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis boasts one of the most lucrative payouts — in total and individually — on the PGA Tour.

The 70-player signature event (one of eight on Tour), which is scheduled to tee off at TPC Southwind on Thursday, features a $20 million total purse this year. The winner of the first tournament of the FedExCup Playoffs will take home $4 million.

Both figures are tied for the third-most in official money among the Tour's 37-event schedule in 2024 and represent a sharp increase over what golfers used to make in Memphis. In 2018 — when it was a regular-season tournament and it was known as the FedEx St. Jude Classic — Dustin Johnson earned $1.188 million as the winner. The total purse was just $6.6 million.

When it was designated a World Golf Championship event in 2019, the total purse increased to $10.25 million and the winner (Brooks Koepka) was awarded $1.745 million.

In 2022, the Memphis event leveled up again, becoming a FedExCup playoff tournament. The purse rose to $15 million that year and the winner, Will Zalatoris, took home $2.7 million.

The Tour Championship (Aug. 29-Sept. 1) doles out the most money to its 30-player field, but all of it is considered bonus money. The Players Championship pays out the most ($25 million), while the U.S. Open had the second-most at stake ($21.5 million).
