Reserve guard leaves Bradley basketball team on day of season-opener

PEORIA — The Bradley men's basketball team lost a piece of guard depth hours before their regular-season opener against Alabama-Birmingham on Monday.

Guard Trey Pettigrew left the team, according to Bradley coach Brian Wardle. Pettigrew, an Illinois native from Chicago Kenwood, had transferred to the Braves from Nevada earlier in the summer.

“Trey is no longer with the team. We wish him nothing but the best,” said Wardle, who declined to elaborate further.

Those who observed Braves practices and scrimmages lately noted Pettigrew seemed to have trouble fitting into Bradley’s culture. Pettigrew had two points on 1-for-3 shooting and a rebound in the Braves' exhibition win over St. Ambrose last week.
