Grading Kansas football on its 35-31 loss against Arizona State: Losing streak continues

Kansas football lost 35-31 on Saturday on the road against Arizona State in Big 12 Conference play.

Here’s a look at how the Jayhawks (1-5, 0-3 in Big 12) graded out from their defeat against Arizona State (4-1, 1-1):

Offense: Jayhawks eclipse 30 points, but fall short

For the first time since Kansas played Lindenwood in the season opener, the Jayhawks eclipsed 30 points. Kansas finished with 31 points against Arizona State. It’s arguably the best game redshirt junior quarterback Jalon Daniels has played this season, and senior wide receiver Quentin Skinner certainly shined. But it just wasn’t enough.

Grade: B-

Defense: Jayhawks continue to force turnovers, but can’t finish the game

Once again, Kansas proved capable of forcing multiple turnovers during the game. The Jayhawks showcased how capable of a group they are. But once again, they weren’t able to finish the game by getting off the field and allowed another game-winning drive.

Grade: C-

Special teams: Kansas blocks field goal

Kansas allowed a long return on a punt, and a successful fake punt, but otherwise thrived. The Jayhawks also blocked a field goal attempt. Not only did they not leave any points on the field, but they took some away from Arizona State.

Grade: B

Coaching: The losing streak continues

Kansas has now lost five straight games this season with this heartbreaking defeat. The Jayhawks couldn’t hold on to multiple leads late. Once again, KU falls short of discovering how to finish a game.

Grade: C

Overall grade: C
