There are a lot of eyes on Kansas football offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Jeff Grimes this week, as the Jayhawks look to turn their season around. Kansas football defensive coordinator Brian Borland talks Arizona State

Kansas football defensive coordinator Brian Borland initially referred to Arizona State’s offense as concerning, before going into more detail. He said Arizona State will want to control the clock with its running game, and use its passing game as a way to further focus on that. He wants to make this a game where Arizona State has to rely on its passing game, in part because of how hard to tackle Arizona State’s lead running back is and because of how mobile Arizona State’s quarterback can be.

The Jayhawks are going to stick with senior linebacker Taiwan Berryhill Jr. as the team’s lead MIKE linebacker as long as redshirt senior linebacker Cornell Wheeler is unavailable. Borland praised how well Berryhill played this past weekend against TCU. They’ve continued to rotate players in practice, but this is the plan.

Senior safety O.J. Burroughs said Arizona State has a good running back who can get downhill. He also praised Arizona State’s wide receivers and quarterback and noted his Jayhawks will have to make sure they are sound in their gaps and assignments.

Senior offensive lineman Michael Ford Jr. said Arizona State has a lot of athletic and big guys up front, who can move and are active. He explained Kansas has to play smart and together.

Redshirt junior running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. described Arizona State’s defense as aggressive, and its players as not scared of too many people. He further explained Arizona State’s players aren’t afraid of how they look to fill gaps or blitz, no matter if the play initially called for them to do so.

Prediction: Arizona State 24, Kansas 21

Kansas has an offense that's capable of scoring a lot of points. It has a defense that's capable of wreaking havoc in the backfield. However, Arizona State has a home-field advantage that the Jayhawks will have to prove they can overcome, and at the moment they aren't there to that degree.
