Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann spoke with the media on Tuesday. Schumann updated the status of All-SEC second-team linebacker Smael Mondon, who is recovering from a foot injury.

Mondon, a senior, missed spring practice due to his injury. Mondon is on the path to recovery, but he's not back to 100 percent.

"Smael (Mondon) is doing a great job in his rehab," said Glenn Schumann. "I would say he's exactly on track. He was moving around really well yesterday. We have a plan for him. He's following the plan with the maturity that you'd expect from a guy with his experience level, and as both a player and age."

Mondon practiced on Aug. 6 in a regular jersey and not a non-contact jersey, which is a good sign for his progress.

Georgia is not rushing back Mondon and it makes sense. The Dawgs have excellent depth at inside linebacker. Schumann has recruited inside linebackers at an elite level for a long time, which pays off when injuries pile up.

Schumann's comments on Mondon are somewhat vague, but fall into line with what Kirby Smart said to start fall camp. "He’s almost back," noted Smart. It is unclear if Mondon will be available for Georgia's Aug. 31 season opener against Clemson.

Speaking of vague injury discussions, the SEC is expected to require teams to release weekly injury reports, which is a big change from previous years.
