Kirby Smart provides Georgia injury updates as fall camp starts

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart addressed the media as the Bulldogs started fall camp. Georgia has under a month to prepare for the Dawgs' season opener against the Clemson Tigers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Aug. 31.

Georgia is not the healthiest team entering fall camp, but it could be worse. The Bulldogs don't have any season-ending injuries yet. However, Kirby Smart did mention that wide receiver Rara Thomas is no longer on the team.

Georgia is relatively banged up, but does not have anyone out for an extended period of time. The Bulldogs are missing a lot of key bodies along the defensive line, which is something to watch as camp progresses.

"You guys will see most of those guys involved in some way in practice," said Kirby Smart. "Some are just completely out, but others aren't."

What Georgia football injury updates did Kirby Smart provide at the start of fall camp? How do the injuries/roster moves impact the Georgia team?

On Rara Thomas' dismissal

Dismissal reason: Arrest

Rara Thomas' dismissal comes in the aftermath of his recent arrest. "Rara, you know, had a chance to sit down and meet with him face to face Tuesday," said Smart. "Which I think was really important, and let him know that he can no longer be a part of the football team, and he understands that, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

Defensive tackle Warren Brinson

Injury: Achilles Tendon

Georgia is thin along the defensive line due to Warren Brinson, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins and Jordan Hall's injuries. "Warren Brinson is dealing with an Achilles tendon, so he'll be in and out," said Smart. "It's an opposite one than what he had in spring, but he's not…it's not long. It's we injected it, and he should be back shortly."

Offensive lineman Marcus Harrison

Injury: Foot

"Marcus Harrison is dealing with a stress reaction on his foot," Smart said. "Should be back shortly." Harrison is a true freshman that is not expected to see many snaps this season

Defensive lineman Jordan Hall

Injury: Leg stress fracture

"Jordan Hall has a tibia stress fracture that we ended up having to do surgery on," said Smart. "We expect a full recovery. He'll be back, hopefully by the first game, but he will be close." It seems like Warren Brinson is more likely to play in the season opener than Jordan Hall.

Defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins

Injury: Foot

"Ty Ingram is coming back from an injury that he's dealt with. He's not 100% but he's close," said Smart. We'd expect Mykel Williams to see more snaps in the interior (as opposed outside linebacker) considering all of the injuries on the defensive line.

Linebacker Smael Mondon

Injury: Foot

"Smael is able to do some stuff, not everything, but he's almost back," said Smart. Georgia has a wealth of talent and depth at inside linebacker, so there's no reason to rush Smael Mondon back.

Wide receiver Cole Speer

Injury: Foot

"Cole Speer did a little bit of mid-foot sprain," said Smart. Cole Speer is a key special teams player.

Running back Branson Robinson

Injury: Ruptured patella tendon (in Aug. 2023)

Branson Robinson is still working is way back to full strength after missing the 2023 season. However, he enters fall camp without limitations. "Branson will start practice without limitations, but we will have some load management with him," said Smart.

Defensive back Chris Peal

Injury: Labrum

"Chris Peal had a labrum repair at the end of spring, so he'll be limited a little bit," said Smart. Peal is expected to be a back up defensive back this fall.
