Giants vs. Steelers: Week 8 staff picks and predictions
The New York Giants (2-5) will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) this Monday night at Acrisure Stadium in their eighth game of the 2024 regular season.
Opening the week, the Giants were 5.5-point road underdogs but that spread has worsened slightly with Big Blue now at +6 as of this writing.
How does the Giants Wire staff see this Week 8 battle shaking out? Here's a look at our picks and score predictions:
Dan Benton: Steelers 24, Giants 20
There are flaws in Pittsburgh going with Russell Wilson but I am not confident the Giants will be the team to expose those. They're very injured, missing some of their top players on each side of the ball, fail routinely in primetime, are poorly coached, and have players making business decisions. It's Week 8 and too many have packed it in. If the Steelers don't win this game going away, it's an indictment on them more so than the Giants. Yet for some reason, I think the Giants keep it respectable (by their standards).
John Fennelly: Steelers 20, Giants 13
It's a huge ask to think the Giants can go on the road and beat a contender at this point. That being said, they should not embarrass themselves, either. They simply do not have the offense right now to compete. The Steelers' third-ranked rush defense should force the Giants to the air, where they can have some success. The only issue would be protecting quarterback Daniel Jones, something they did not do well last week (eight sacks) in their first game without left tackle Andrew Thomas.
Tyler Henry: Steelers 31, Giants 17
I originally thought the Giants might surprise us this week. After all, they tend to pull off crazy wins when you least expect it from this team. However, the Giants are just in rough shape right now. The loss of Andrew Thomas is a tough one to overcome and with the Giants putting up just 10 points total in the last two weeks, it's hard to have any confidence in the offense, especially against a tough Steelers defense.
Serena Burks: Steelers 34, Giants 10
The Giants are in a shambles. It's not just about losing, it's about the injuries and lack of players stepping up to fill gaps. It's about the lack of effort and the lack of adjustments. The Steelers looked good against the Jets last week. I admit, I was surprised. I don't have a lot of faith in Wilson, but he played very well. That doesn't bode well for the Giants this week, especially with Deonte Banks still being allowed to play. If Jones comes out playing aggressively and Daboll calls a more aggressive offensive game, they can keep it close. But I don't see them winning against this Steelers team, especially on the road.
Jeevan Kirkland: Steelers 27, Giants 16
The Steelers looked like a brand new team under the reigns of Russell Wilson. The offense finally had a downfield passing attack as George Pickens and Wilson connected on several 20-plus yard passes. This has been an area in which the Giants' defense has struggled as even when they are playing well they have been unable to stop the big plays. This will likely result in big days for both Pickens and Najee Harris as they should feast against a Giants defense that is injured and hampered by terrible offensive play.
Which brings up the topic: How will the offense perform in prime time in Pittsburgh? Poorly. Daniel Jones has been historically bad in prime-time games and against a stout Steelers defense this trend will likely continue. The offensive line looked horrible without Andrew Thomas and should not be expected to perform better against First-Team All-Pro players like T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward.
