New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen held his annual bye week press conference on Tuesday and answered the question most attendees wanted to hear answered.

Will he be back as GM in 2025?

"Yes," Schoen quickly said with confidence. "I communicate with ownership all the time. I know (head coach Brian Daboll) talks about that continuously each time these questions come up. We have a really good relationship with ownership...there's confidence in the plan and where we're heading."

At the same time, Schoen acknowledged that this season was a disappointing one so far.

"Obviously, we're sitting here at 2-8. Not where we want to be, nobody is happy about it," he said before reminding everyone that there's still seven games left.

Schoen believes in the plan and the process, however, and said that the team was "not far off" and "we have the players in the building to do it."

When asked for a culprit to hang the losing on, Schoen did not want to get into specifics.

"It's execution," he said and then reminded everyone that the Giants are 1-5 in one-score games and their red zone woes (they are last in the league in that category) have hurt the team.

Schoen basically didn't want to talk much about individual players but did praise many of the younger players, especially his 2024 draft class.

"I'm excited about the young players that we have. The build is tough sometimes as you're going through it, but you've got to go through it to get to the other side. There's some young pieces here in place. We're not far off," he said.

That might be true. The Giants have lost six games that could be considered winnable, including those one-score games Schoen alluded to.

Next year will be his fourth as general manager. To say the heat will be turned up could be an understatement.
