Georgia football: Updating Bulldogs' college football poll rankings after open date

Georgia football’s second open date on its schedule allowed the Bulldogs to sit back and watch the slate of games over the weekend.

Only one top-10 team lost — No. 7 LSU falling 38-23 at No. 14. Top-ranked Oregon routed No. 21 Illinois 38-9.

The Bulldogs remain at No. 2 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday afternoon. The top six teams stayed the same as last week.

Georgia also stayed at No. 2 in the latest Associated Press poll. No. 1 Oregon got 61 first place votes with the Bulldogs getting the other.

Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) faces Florida (4-3, 2-2) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Georgia rankings update

In the coaches’ poll, the rest of the top 5 is No. 1 Oregon, followed by No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Ohio State and No. 5 Miami. Oregon received 53 first-place votes and Georgia got the other one.

Florida had an open date last week, too. It is coming off a 48-20 win over Kentucky on Oct. 19.

"We'll be working on a bunch of situations that we feel like we need to improve at and certainly we're trying to develop some of these young players on our team to get ready for the stretch that we got coming up," Florida coach Billy Napier said Wednesday. "Really pleased with the leadership on our team and our staff. I thought they did a great job. We were well prepared and played really hard against Kentucky."
