Which Georgia football NFL prospects are most underrated going into the 2024 draft?
Georgia football seems a safe bet to have at least two more NFL Draft first-round picks go on Thursday night, but there may be some players being undervalued from recent Bulldog teams later in the draft.
A couple were key pieces in back-to-back national championships, but show up in mock drafts further down then they should or in some cases not showing up at all.
Who are the guys in this year’s crop that could have front offices kicking themselves for letting them slide down like in past year?
Remember Jamaree Salyer went in the sixth round to the Chargers in 2022 and turned into a starter on the offensive line. Charlie Woerner was a sixth round pick with the 49ers in 2020 but the tight end carved out a spot on a team that reached the Super Bowl and parlayed that into a reported $12 million, three-year deal with the Falcons.
Here are three Bulldogs in this draft class that are being projected to go lower than they should:
Cornerback Kamari Lassiter's Draft Projections
Kirby Smart told Lassiter he would understand if he skipped the Orange Bowl because he received good draft projections, but the Savannah native wanted to play another game with his teammates.
His 40 time at Georgia’s Pro Day—an unofficial 4.60—seemed to have dropped Lassiter down some projections into mostly the second round but some third, but he may still be worth a late-round selection. Lassister was dependable last season. In 408 coverage snaps, he didn’t allow a single touchdown, according to Pro Football Focus.
Former scout Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network wrote: “In press man, he isn’t very physical, but he is patient and avoids putting himself in a bad position. He’s a fluid athlete and rarely gets out of phase at any level of the route.”
Center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger's draft projections
The three-year starter who played in every game since the start of the 2021 season was a top center prospect heading into last season but now seems to be in the second tier and is projected in the third to fifth round. Pulling out of the Senior Bowl after being announced as a participant didn't seem to help.
If anyone was the heart and soul of Georgia the last few years, Van Pran-Granger would certainly be one of those guys. He didn’t allow a sack the past two seasons in nearly 1,000 pass-blocking snaps, per PFF.
The Athletics’ Dane Brugler called him “one of the best leaders this class has to offer,” but projected him in the fourth round to the Cardinals.
Running back Kendall Milton's draft projections
Georgia’s second leading rusher last season with 790 yards and 14 touchdowns is slotted as a seventh-round pick in some mock drafts that projected every pick from Thursday through Saturday, but in the priority undrafted free agent camp in others.
Sure, Milton may have to fight for a roster spot or to make a practice squad, but what if he can shake the oft-injured label and show that his final five games in a Georgia uniform was a sign of things to come?
He led the Bulldogs in all five games, averaging just under 100 yards per game with 9 rushing touchdowns and a 7.86 yards per carry average.
