Georgia football injuries: Latest updates on Carson Beck and Tate Ratledge
Georgia football star quarterback Carson Beck isn’t expected to miss any games after sustaining a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder at the end of a fourth quarter run Saturday night in the Bulldogs’ narrow win at Kentucky.
"We’ve got like seven AC joint sprains," coach Kirby Smart said after Tuesday's practice. "That's not like a significant or major injury. Carson's fine. He's practiced both days."
The news isn’t as encouraging for starting offensive guard Tate Ratledge who underwent TightRope surgery for a left high ankle sprain and may not return until November. Ratledge also reportedly sustained a sprained left knee in the 13-12 win.
"He’s had TightRope (surgery) already," Smart said. "He’s in the rehab process already. We checked the night of the game and had to get it fixed. He's getting it fixed already. He’ll be back as soon as he can. We expect a healthy and full recovery.”
Beck was injured when he faked a handoff and ran left and dove on the turf with 1:05 to go. He landed on his left side and appeared to hurt his shoulder. He grimaced when he got up.
"I'll be fine," Beck said when ABC sideline reporter Molly McGrath asked him about the injury after the game. "Thank God we've got a bye week. That's all I've got to say. Hey, Kentucky's a physical game and we knew we were going to come into this and it was going to be physical."
Georgia is off this week before playing No. 4 Alabama Sept. 28 in Tuscaloosa.
This is the second September when Ratledge suffered an injury that sidelined him.
He was lost for the season in 2021 after sustaining a foot injury early in the Bulldogs’ opener against Clemson.
The senior from Rome is a three-year starter at right guard.
Georgia offensive lineman Amarius Mims had TightRope surgery last year and missed six games and nearly two months before returning. Tight end Brock Bowers returned 26 days after his own TightRope surgery.
