From hardwood to gridiron: 6-foot-11, 332-pound Jahzare Jackson picks Georgia football

Georgia football has landed a rather sizable offensive line commitment from a prospect with an unusual backstory.

Jahzare Jackson played basketball for Atlanta-based Overtime Elite the last three seasons but is turning his focus to football and the Bulldogs will have a lot to work with.

Namely, a player who was listed at 6-foot-11 and 332 pounds by Overtime Elite.

His announcement was made on X, formerly Twitter, Monday morning that he is signing with Georgia.

The 20-year old San Diego native averaged 12.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season and entered his name in the NBA Draft but withdrew it. Just like fellow Overtime Elite product Somto Cyril who signed to play basketball for Georgia.

Jackson, who played at IMG Academy before transferring to Overtime Elite, drew attention from major college programs as an offensive line prospect and took visits to Florida, Florida State and Mississippi State.

The class of 2024 prospect has already enrolled and in class at UGA, according to Overtime Elite.

Jackson liked the pitch from Georgia coach Kirby Smart that he would have a chance to make the NFL by being developed in the program.

"Why UGA?" Jackson said in a video posted on on Instagram. "Shoot, I fell in love with the coaches, I fell in love with the school, the players were welcoming when I got there. And I'm still in Georgia, too, at the end of the day. I feel like that was a big thing for me still being able to be in Georgia."
