FSU football predictions, odds: Will losing streak end vs Cal? Experts make their picks

The losing skid has to end soon, right? The Florida State football team certainly hopes their first win comes Saturday when California comes to Tallahassee.

This game feels all kinds of weird, starting with it now being an ACC game. FSU comes in 0-3 after another bad loss to Memphis, one in which the Seminoles were held under 250 total yards. Fans are calling for a quarterback change to Brock Glenn after DJ Uiagalelei has thrown just one touchdown pass in three games, and some are even calling for coach Mike Norvell to be fired a year after FSU started 13-0.

Cal, on the other hand, is off to a 3-0 start after beating San Diego State 31-10. Coach Justin Wilcox has the third-best defense in the ACC, allowing 12.3 points per game. The Golden Bears' offense has been more pedestrian, though, with quarterback Fernando Mendoza averaging under 200 yards per game and running back Jaivian Thomas averaging just over 80 ypg. All-Pac-12 rusher Jadyn Ott leads the team with two touchdowns.

Is this the week FSU finally gets its first win? Here's what college football experts predict will happen, plus odds for the game:

SI.com: Cal wins 23-15

Austin Veazey writes: "Picking Florida State is futile until they prove they're worth picking. I don't care if the water breaks have been better (if you know, you know). I'm assuming this will be similar to the Georgia Tech and Boston College games, with Cal controlling the ball on the ground with limited possessions. The under seems like easy money here."

JD McCarthy writes: "Frankly, Cal should be favored in this game as the Seminoles have done little to justify being favored against a conference opponent, especially one that has already picked up one road win on the season. The Cal defense is holding opponents to 12.3 points per game and it is hard to see FSU’s struggling offense having enough success to win this game, let alone to cover."

PickDawgz: Cal and the points

Randy Chambers writes: "The Florida State Seminoles are the more talented team on paper, but that didn't matter in games against Georgia Tech, Boston College and Memphis. The bottom line is Florida State is a joke of a program right now, and we've seen the same struggles through three games to let us know this isn't a fluke. I want nothing to do with Florida State, regardless of opponent. Florida State is also 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games as a favorite. Cal is also good enough defensively to add to the misery that is Uiagalelei and this FSU offense. You're nuts if you're willingly putting money on Florida State. Give me Cal and the free points."

Sports Chat Place: Take Cal

Chris Ruffalo writes: "Until Florida State visibly makes the switch from DJ U at QB, I’m going to continue fading the ‘Noles. It’s not all his fault, but he’s been bad this year and the trickle-down effect has spread throughout the team and it’s been a disappointment from the word go for FSU this season. Cal’s been impressive so far and I think that Cal has a good chance to keep it going here. Give me Cal and the points."
