After four years at Ohio State, Zed Key transferring to Dayton for final season
Zed Key won’t have to travel far for his final season of college basketball.
After four years at Ohio State, Key announced that he will finish his career with a season at Dayton and play for coach Anthony Grant.
In four years with the Buckeyes, Key appeared in 121 games and averaged 7.4 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 55.3% from the floor, playing 17.5 minutes per game and establishing himself as a fan favorite. His most impactful season came in 2022-23 when, as a captain, he averaged 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in 25 games including 23 starts. Key’s season was affected by a midseason shoulder injury suffered against Purdue that eventually required season-ending surgery, and he returned for his fourth year as the backup to second-year center Felix Okpara.

After averaging 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, Key entered the transfer portal. He visited the Flyers last weekend and was in Columbus on Sunday afternoon for an autograph signing for fans at a grocery store as part of an event put on by The 1870 Society.
“It was good,” Key said of his official visit. “Dayton, it’s a nice city. I’ve been there before obviously, and we played there. It’s a nice arena. It gets loud in there and it’s a cool city.”
Dayton hosted Ohio State for a charity exhibition game during the preseason. The Buckeyes won, 78-70, and Key had 3 points and two rebounds in 20:54 off the bench.

Asked Sunday what he wanted to find in a school, Key said, “First is development. I want to be able to develop my game a little bit more on the perimeter. Family atmosphere is another biggie. I had that here at Ohio State. I don’t want to go somewhere else where it’s not a family atmosphere. That’s big.”
Now he’ll get to chase that without leaving state lines.
